2022 is starting off great with out standing cash calendar sales. This is the 19th year of this fundraiser for the shrine, these funds help in the day to day operation of our building. Thank you to all you Nobels and their ladies that get out and sell the calendars it shows that when we work together El Riad can do great things. Once again thank you for all your hard work. Please contact Chief Rabban Leo Baumgart for 2023 Cash Calendar pictures, you will need your pictures in no later than August 22, 2022.

I had the honor to do a cold sands ceremony for two gentlemen on January 21. It was Elmer Karl’s 90th birthday so to surprise him his son and grandson fulfilled their Masonic degrees and were raised so they could be fezzed on Elmer’s birthday. With the help of Bill Thompson, and the Membership Committee, we were able to do a cold sands and have Elmer fez both his son and grandson.

February was a fun-filled month and it shows we are getting the El Riad train back on track. Fife & Drum once again had a great Valentine Bash with Johnny Holm Band, the Shrine was full of partiers and I am sure that Cupid was hanging out with his love bow and arrow. Nice event Fifes!

On February 19, the El Riad Motor Corps got on the bus for their 16th Annual Pub Run. This event has from the start been about having fun with friends and family as you hop from stop to stop…great job Motor Corps. February 19 was also a full day as the Ladies of the Nile had their annual pasta dinner and auction at the Masonic Center. This has grown into a great night for the Nile Ladies for a fundraiser so this group can donate to the Hospital. If you have never been to this event put it on your to do list for next year. Thank you Ladies for all you do for our kids.

Then, on February 25, the Blast & Cast had their Cabin Fever Party with a boat full of prizes and a steak dinner to go along with it. Nice job guys for a great event.

Last but not least along come the Chanters February 26 ROCK the Shrine featuring Pop Rocks. As always, it was a night full of fun and great music to dance to or just to enjoy with your friends. WOW!

In the middle of all that fun we took a trip to Green Bay. WI, for the winter meeting for the upcoming summer Midwest Session August 18–20. This will be a fun event and not too far away for El Riad to travel to. Look for more information as we get closer to the summer. Those of you that are planning on going, if it is as a unit or individual, please get your numbers together as we will need that for our hotel arrangements.

The EL RIAD SHRINE CIRCUS is coming yes that is right the CIRCUS is coming! April 21–24. It has been two years since our last Circus. It will be great to get this family event back in Sioux Falls. So that being said, we will need all hand on deck for the nine shows. It does not matter if you can work one or all nine shows, El Riad needs all to pitch in to make this a great event and a big money maker for El Riad. Please buy your tickets so we can have a full house for all shows and so the kids (no matter where they live) can make a Circus. The following dates are for the rest of the circus performances.

• Chamberlain, April 18 & 19

• Mitchell, April 24–27

• Windom, MN, June 23

• Yankton, June 24

• Winner, June 25

Calling all hockey fans! We are having a Shrine Night at the Stampede on March 12, beginning at 6:05 p.m. Please look for eblasts so you can buy tickets for you and your families and bring some friends along. This will be the second year we have done this.  That night is a Birthday for Stomp this should be a great family night. Our Shrine Clowns will be selling chuck a puck for prizes. Please wear your fez and Shrine clothing to show off El Riad Shrine!

El Riad is off to a great start in 2022. Keep an eye on the up and coming events as there are some fun events coming up. We have the St. Patty Bash this month and if you not gotten you chance to win $10,000 catch one of the Motor Corps or Sprint Cars members and get your chance.

As I have said with out our families we do not have a shrine. That being said, we have another event that has been stopped because of the way things have been for the last two years and that is the Father/Daughter Dance put on by the Job’s Daughters. This event has been held in the shrine for several years so this year is no exception. The Shrine would like to invite all dads to bring their daughters to the shrine for the dance on April 1, 7:00-10 p.m. There will be a DJ for dancing, snacks and lot of fun for all. This is open to Shriners and Masons along with any father and daughter outside the Shrine. Cost is $20 per ticket. There will be snacks, pop, and dancing. Tickets will be available at the shrine office or text Matt Johnson (605-940-4202) or online at [email protected] or on facebook.com/bethel38.   I would like to thank the Classie Autos for stepping up and helping with refreshments for this event. If any other units would like to help please contact Laura Brown or Matt Johnson with Bethel 38 if you wish to help.

In closing, I would like to thank every Shriner and their family in advance for all their hard work to get the El Riad Train moving forward. It takes a village to make this fantastic organization run and take care of our children.

Also, I invite all families to come to the Wednesday night social. If you have not been down for some time, please come back home to the Shrine and bring your friend.

AS PP ILLUSTRIOUS SIR Keith Rose said, “BUT FOR THE SHRINE”.

In Faith,

Jim (Kid) Slater Potentate
